Quote Time!

Currently my life is filling with change and new opportunities, that I have always desired, but are now in front of me. This sometimes frightens and overwhelms me, being I am only a teenager. But then I have to remember (as corny as this sounds) that I believe in myself and I believe in the difference I want to make in the world. I know these dreams are big and they are going to take loads of work and determination and nothing is going to be placed in the palm of my hand. I know that not everyone is going to support or believe in me. But what is most important, is that I believe in myself and my dream. Here is the quote that reminds me to have faith in myself:

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.”

Prom Hair Look #2

Some of you may have had your prom already, but some still are waiting to get all "glammed up"! And you can always wear these looks to other functions, which is why they are so great. This next hair look is one of my favorites. It belongs on the cover of a magazine, and don't we all want to look like we belong in a magazine spread at prom? So here are the steps to get this front-cover worthy look:

You will need medium and firm hold hairspray, smoothing iron, teasing brush, bobby pins, and elastics.

Step One: Section off the mow-hawk area. Place braids wherever you see fit along the sides and back, again be creative, there is no wrong!

Step Two: Next back comb 1/2 inch sections of the mow-hawk panel with medium hold hairspray!

Step Three: Push the mow-hawk up and pin it in place!

Step Four: With the smoothing iron, smooth out sections to cover the back combed panel and lay over! Finish with the firm hold hairspray!

Step Five: Rock the best hair look at prom!
Joe Basil is amazing at up-do's (as you can see), he did my hair for prom and it was FABULOUS! Contact him at (203) 907-6660!

Something to try...

For all of those who are looking for natural ways to clear their skin, look no further than your fruit bowl! As I was browsing the internet, in search of a skincare tip, I found one that claims apples clear zits. Now I have not tried this method, but for those who are interested, it's worth a shot! All you have to do is pour some hot water on a slice of apple! Then wait for it to cool and apply the apple slice to your pimples. Apparently this is a "time-tested trick highly recommended by specialist." I know I am skeptical, but it might be something fun to try out and who knows, you might just get beautiful skin:)

This inspires me...

I think there is a time in all of our teenage lives or in our life when we are going to be told that we won't amount to anything or we feel like there are just too many challenges in life. Sometimes we might be bullied or might not get everything right, but that's just part of the journey. And if we can accept who we are, not let people talk us down or let challenges get in our way, I know we will all be okay because challenges makes us different and who wants to be the same as everyone else? Bryon Breeze, jr. was born without legs or hands, yet he has the most amazing and uplifting spirit. He moved to New York from Washington, D.C. in order to achieve his goal of uniting Urban Casualties, a group of hip-hop artist in wheelchairs, to record a hip-hop cd. Bryon Breeze, jr, is 'Half a Soulja' and he reminds me that whatever challenges I may face, I can reach my goals. Here is his story: http://www.halfasoulja.com/soulja_trailer

How to Survive Prom...

Luckily for me, my prom was more like an 'end of the year party' so it wasn't your typical prom! So already it was less stressful. But I do have some suggestions on how to maintain your sanity during prom! I think first of all make sure you are eating a balanced diet. Don't be cheating yourself of essential nutrients to fit into your dress or tux. In the end you will only be hurting yourself! Stay physically active, but don't over workout. Go for a run the night before to help calm your nerves and help you get a good night's rest. For the girls, make sure you can do the hairstyle you want, practice beforehand or hire Holly Guimares and Joe Basil to take care of all that stress. Getting my hair and makeup done really put me in the moment and got me excited. I think when you are at prom, just live in the moment. Or you can become friends with the DJs and get to DJ, which is what I did. It was super fun and I must admit I am an awesome DJ! Here is a picture of me DJ-ing at prom:

Prom Makeup Look #3!

For those who haven't had their prom, here is another makeup look that will stand out in a crowd! Holly created a smokey eye that we call 'Rocker Chic'! Check it out:

Step One: Apply pencil liner on entire lid area
Step Two: Buff a slightly lighter shadow color onto crease. Be sure to really map out how high you want your contour to come up!

Step Three: Apply mascara to the top lash line only, this will help to create a sultry eye effect! Double coat the top and bottom of top lashes, this will give the illusion that they are darker and thicker!

Step Four: Apply a bold lip color!

Step Five: Rock it out!

Holly did my makeup for my prom and it was fabulous:) If you want her to do yours, contact her @ hlguimares@aol.com!

Pre-Prom Workout:)

Today is my school prom! So yesterday I knew I had to fit one last major workout in, but my designated workout area was being used by father, so I hit the pavement (literally). I decided that I was going to brave running without Kayla. So I blasted my iPod as a workout buddy, which did help me feel better about running alone. Everything was going great, I was finishing my third mile and then I tripped and (very gracefully) fell. May I add this is extremely convenient being that it was the night before prom and I was bleeding, but the most important thing was that I kept going. Even though, I fell I got right back up and finished my third mile. Don't let slip up's in your workout get the best of you, keep going because in the end the results are worth it. For those who want to fit in a quick workout, try to do 1000 jumps of jump rope, every time your feet hit the ground that counts as one! I personally feel more of workout when I do high-knees with jump rope, so you can try that, if you want a higher intensity. Try to complete this as fast as possible and you will get a quick little workout before prom!

Prom Makeup Look #1!

Personally, I am more excited to get my makeup done by Holly Guimares than to actually go to prom! But I am even more excited to share with all my TeenSanity girls the prom makeup looks by Holly! My favorite aspect of all of the looks is you won't look like you have overdone your makeup, it's not 'caked on', it's simply pretty! Holly has given us step by step directions on how to transform our eyes from lame to insane! The first tutorial I am sharing with all of you is the 'Funky and Fun' eye look:

Step One: Apply lid color all over lid with "patting" technique
Step Two: Apply contour color in the crease of the eye, like a "v" shape:
Step Three: Apply highlight color, this should be the lightest shadow, on brow bone to "marry" the look together:
Step Four: Apply mascara to the top & bottom of the lash line:

Step Five: Show it off!

I will have more of Holly's Prom Makeup Looks to come this week! If you are interested in having Holly do your makeup, contact her at hlguimares@aol.com!

Workout Motivation

Today, my friend, Kayla, and I went for a run and IT WAS AWESOME! It's a lot more comfortable to run with a friend, you don't feel awkward or lonely! Then my friends, Kayla and Alex, decided to create a workout schedule so we can stay on task and tone our bodies! We also set long term and weekly goals, to keep us motivated! If you want to workout, but don't want to do it alone, grab a friend. Try not to turn the workout into a chatting session, but make use of friendly support and encouragement! I recommend putting a schedule together and making it consistent! Here are some pictures of our schedule and goals board:

Exercise! Exercise! Exercise!

Happy May Everyone! I just finished my workout and I feel on top of the world, literally! The weather is getting better and better each day, now is the time to workout outside! Today obesity rates are much higher than they were 20 years ago. Between 16 and 33 percent of all teens and adolescents are obese. Studies show that a child who is obese between the ages of 10 and 13 are 80% more likely to be obese as adults. So what can we do to stay physically (and mentally) healthy? Besides eating right, physical activity is extremely important. Every time you workout your body is building muscles! Your strengthening your mind, lungs, muscles, heart- exercise affects every part of your body! If you exercise on a regular basis, you will be surprised at how good you will look and how awesome you will feel! Sometimes it's hard to get motivated to workout, so try running/walking with a friend or just putting on my workout clothes encourages me to get moving! Aerobic exercise has really help me calm down during stressful times. After 20 minutes of continuos slow running, our bodies release hormone called endorphins that start circulating through our bloodstream, thus producing a "runner's high"that truly boosts your mood! I can't stress enough how much better I feel after my workouts and you will too:) To start, just try walking a mile and increase the length each day!
